We collect this information so that we can provide you the service and offer personalized features. In most cases, we retain it so that, for instance, you can return to view prior messages you have sent or easily see your friend list. When you update information, we usually keep a backup copy of the prior version for a reasonable period of time to enable reversion to the prior version of that information. 62 62 63 You post User Content (as defined in the Facebook [ Terms of Use ](terms.php ) ) on the Site at your own risk. Although we allow you to set privacy options that limit access to your pages, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable. We cannot control the actions of other Users with whom you may choose to share your pages and information. Therefore, we cannot and do not guarantee that User Content you post on the Site will not be viewed by unauthorized persons. We are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Site. For instance, if a friend sends you a new message or poke, or someone posts on your wall, you may receive an email alerting you to that fact. 90 90 91 Generally, you may opt out of such emails [ here ](/editaccount.php?notifications ) , though Facebook reserves the right to send you notices about your account even if you opt out of all voluntary email notifications.91 Generally, you may opt out of such emails [ here ](/editaccount.php?notifications&pwstdfy=6cf51019f71a1272e98d9cf32ddef559) , though Facebook reserves the right to send you notices about your account even if you opt out of all voluntary email notifications. 92 92 93 93 Facebook may use information in your profile without identifying you as an individual to third parties. We do this for purposes such as aggregating how many people in a network like a band or movie and personalizing advertisements and promotions so that we can provide you Facebook. We believe this benefits you. You can know more about the world around you and, where there are advertisements, they're more likely to be interesting to you. For example, if you put a favorite movie in your profile, we might serve you an advertisement highlighting a screening of a similar one in your town. But we don't tell the movie company who you are. … … 99 99 Facebook is about sharing information with others -- friends and people in your networks -- while providing you with privacy settings that restrict other users from accessing your information. We allow you to choose the information you provide to friends and networks through Facebook. Our network architecture and your privacy settings allow you to make informed choices about who has access to your information. We do not provide contact information to third party marketers without your permission. We share your information with third parties only in limited circumstances where we believe such sharing is 1) reasonably necessary to offer the service, 2) legally required or, 3) permitted by you. For example: 100 100 101 * Your news feed and mini-feed may aggregate the information you provide and make it available to your friends and network members according to your privacy settings. You may set your preferences for your news feed and mini-feed [ here ](privacy.php?view=feeds ) .101 * Your news feed and mini-feed may aggregate the information you provide and make it available to your friends and network members according to your privacy settings. Facebook takes action to block access by these engines to personal information beyond your name, profile picture, and limited aggregated data about your profile (e.g. number of wall postings). 103 103 * We may provide information to service providers to help us bring you the services we offer. Specifically, we may use third parties to facilitate our business, such as to host the service at a co-location facility for servers, to send out email updates about Facebook, to remove repetitive information from our user lists, to process payments for products or services, to offer an online job application process, or to provide search results or links (including sponsored links). In connection with these offerings and business operations, our service providers may have access to your personal information for use for a limited time in connection with these business activities. Where we utilize third parties for the processing of any personal information, we implement reasonable contractual and technical protections limiting the use of that information to the Facebook-specified purposes. 104 * If you, your friends, or members of your network use any third-party applications developed using the Facebook Platform ("Platform Applications"), those Platform Applications may access and share certain information about you with others in accordance with your privacy settings. You may opt-out of any sharing of certain or all information through Platform Applications on the [ Privacy Settings ](/privacy.php ) page. In addition, third party developers who have created and operate Platform Applications ("Platform Developers"), may also have access to your personal information (excluding your contact information) if you permit Platform Applications to access your data. Before allowing any Platform Developer to make any Platform Application available to you, Facebook requires the Platform Developer to enter into an agreement which, among other things, requires them to respect your privacy settings and strictly limits their collection, use, and storage of your information. However, while we have undertaken contractual and technical steps to restrict possible misuse of such information by such Platform Developers, we of course cannot and do not guarantee that all Platform Developers will abide by such agreements. Please note that Facebook does not screen or approve Platform Developers and cannot control how such Platform Developers use any personal information that they may obtain in connection with Platform Applications. In addition, Platform Developers may require you to sign up to their own terms of service, privacy policies or other policies, which may give them additional rights or impose additional obligations on you, so please make sure to review these terms and policies carefully before using any Platform Application. You can report any suspected misuse of information through the Facebook Platform and we will investigate any such claim and take appropriate action against the Platform Developer up to and including terminating their participation in the Facebook Platform and/or other formal legal action.104 * If you, your friends, or members of your network use any third-party applications developed using the Facebook Platform ("Platform Applications"), those Platform Applications may access and share certain information about you with others in accordance with your privacy settings. Such accounts have only limited capabilities (e.g., messaging is disabled) and passwords are changed regularly to limit possible misuse. 106 106 * We may be required to disclose user information pursuant to lawful requests, such as subpoenas or court orders, or in compliance with applicable laws. We do not reveal information until we have a good faith belief that an information request by law enforcement or private litigants meets applicable legal standards. Additionally, we may share account or other information when we believe it is necessary to comply with law, to protect our interests or property, to prevent fraud or other illegal activity perpetrated through the Facebook service or using the Facebook name, or to prevent imminent bodily harm. This may include sharing information with other companies, lawyers, agents or government agencies. … … 123 123 ## Changing or Removing Information 124 124 125 Access and control over most personal information on Facebook is readily available through the profile editing tools. Further, Google Finance also offers a broad range of company news and information in order to deliver more relevant, unbiased results in a clean, uncluttered user interface.93 94 Here are some specific Google Finance features:95 96 * Company Search -- With Google Finance you can search for stocks, mutual funds, public and private companies, using both company names and (where available) ticker symbols.97 98 99 * Interactive Charts -- Google Finance charts correlate market data with corresponding dated news stories to help you determine if there is a relationship between them (for instance, by seeing news stories that came out about a certain company in the context of what that company's stock did that day). You can also click and drag the charts to see different time periods and zoom in to see more detailed information.100 101 102 * News and More News -- Google Finance incorporates our Google News service, which gathers stories from more than 4,500 English news sources worldwide. Stories are clustered by topic so you can see different opinions on a single subject; you can also review news stories by monthly date range and by importance (which is determined by algorithms).103 104 105 * Blogs -- If you want the opinions of citizen journalists, you got 'em; Google Finance includes company-related postings from Google Blog Search.106 107 108 * Company Management Team -- Google Finance helps you put a face to a name. Mousing over an executive name shows you their picture as well as links, where available, to their biography, compensation details and trading activity.109 110 111 * Discussion Groups -- Talk amongst yourselves. Google Finance offers high-quality Discussion Groups whose dedicated team of moderators work to keep conversations on and spam-free.112 113 114 * Portfolios -- Google Finance offers a fast, easy and powerful way to keep create and maintain your portfolio of stocks and mutual funds.115 116 ** How does Google Finance work? Where does your financial content come from? **117 Google Finance works by combining content we've licensed from financial data providers with content we've crawled and indexed from the web. The result is an easier approach to helping you find and manage financial information online.118 119 ** How do I access Google Finance? **120 There are several ways to access Google Finance:121 122 1. Go directly to [ http://finance.google.com ](http://finance.google.com)123 2. Search for an exchange-supported ticker symbol on Google.com and click on the chart or Google Finance link that you'll see at the top of your search results124 3. Click on the ticker symbols on your personalized homepage or Desktop Sidebar125 4. Click on the Google Finance link on the [ Google Search: More, more, more ](http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/) page126 127 ** Why is Google Finance in "beta"? **128 The "beta" label means that the product is still being tested and refined; we generally find that the best way to improve new products is to get feedback directly from users on what works and what doesn't. So if you have comments or suggestions about Google Finance, we'd love to [ hear ](http://www.google.com/support/finance) from you.129 130 ** What's next from Google Finance? **131 We can't say anything specific about future versions of this product, except to promise that we'll continue to improve it as much as possible based on our users' feedback. You can stay up to date on all Google Finance enhancements and changes by joining the [ Google Finance discussion group ](http://groups.google.com/group/Google-Finance) on Google Groups.132 133 ** What Google.com searches trigger Google Finance results? **134 If you search for an exchange supported ticker symbol or mutual fund on Google.com, we'll return the price (which may be delayed, as noted on the Finance results page), along with an intra-day chart, the daily high and low, and other useful information. Click on the chart or Google Finance link at the top of your search results to visit the corresponding company page in Google Finance.135 136 137 138 139 ## Features140 141 ** What are the minimum system requirements for using Google Finance charts? **142 To use Google Finance charts, your system must meet the following requirements:143 144 1. Macromedia Flash; Player 7.0+. If you don't have a Flash Player plug-in installed on your computer, you can [ download it ](http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash) from the Adobe website.145 2. Microsoft Windows 2000 or higher with the latest updates installed: IE 6.0, Windows Firefox 1.0, Windows Opera 8.0146 3. Mac OS: Macintosh Firefox 1.0, Safari 1.2.4 and 2.0147 4. Linux: Firefox 1.0.4148 149 ** Does Google Finance use third party software? **150 Yes, this product includes software developed by Macromedia, Inc. ( [ http://www.macromedia.com ](http://www.macromedia.com) ). See [ license details ](http://weblogs.macromedia.com/flashjavascript/license.txt) .151 152 ** I looked up a stock, and I didn't see a chart. Why? **153 First, make sure you have Macromedia Flash Player 7.0 or higher installed on your machine. If you don't have the plug-in, you can download it [ here ](http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash) . If you have Flash installed, but still don't see a chart, this probably means the security in question isn't trading with enough volume to generate a chart. This often happens with penny stocks or stocks trading on foreign exchanges. It's also worth noting that privately held companies will not have charts.154 155 ** How do I compare a stock and/or a fund? **156 When you're viewing the chart of a given stock or fund, just click the "Compare" tab and enter the symbols to which you'd like to compare it, or pick from a list of algorithmically-based suggestions and then click the "Add" button. The resulting chart will display a comparison of price percentage changes for the time period specified.157 158 ** Can I see stocks and dividends on a chart? **159 Yes, you'll find splits and dividends represented on our charts with green "S" and blue "D" icons. If you don't want to view these corporate actions, go to the "Settings" tab and uncheck the Splits or Dividends checkbox.160 161 ** How do I personalize my chart settings **162 Now you can choose your chart default settings to match your preferred style. If you click on the "Settings" tab, you can decide whether or not you want to see News Flags, Dividends, Splits, or Volume on your chart. You can also decide on your charts' default zoom level and whether you want your vertical scale maximized or fixed.163 164 ** How much historical data does Google Finance have? **165 We now enable our users to view up to 40 years of historical data for U.S. stocks. Historical data and daily updates are provided by CSI ( [ http://www.csidata.com ](http://www.csidata.com) ).166 167 ** Do you offer after hours stock quotes? **168 Yes, you can now see quotes during non-market hours. Prior to the market open and after the market closes, you'll see a delayed quote in the Market Summary box above the chart. Note, however, that pre-market and after hours quotes aren't available for all securities.169 170 ** How do you calculate EPS? **171 Earnings Per Share (EPS) data comes from Reuters and is stated for the most recent 12 months. EPS represents the adjusted income available to common stockholders for the trailing twelve months plus discontinued operations, extraordinary items, and cumulative effect of accounting changes for the same period divided by the trailing twelve month diluted weighted average shares outstanding.172 173 ** How does Google Finance identify related companies? **174 The related companies feature shows you which companies have been associated with each other in the past, based on our web search results, news items and other sources. These results are algorithmically determined, not selected by a human reviewer. This feature can tell you that companies are somehow connected, but it can't tell you how they're connected; they could be adversaries, partners, or anything else. We encourage you to web search, and other resources to learn more about the relationships between companies listed in the related companies feature.175 176 ** What are the Market Performance and Category pages? **177 On the Google Finance home page you can see at a glance how major sectors are currently performing in U.S. financial markets. Scrolling over the bar charts will show you more detailed information about percentage increases and decreases for a given sector. To learn more about a given sector, simply click on the name and you'll see how that particular sector is performing compared to the S&P 500. The news volume chart on the left-hand side of the page lets you see the amount of news about the company for each week over a 90 day period.217 218 ** What is the Recent Quotes feature? How is this different from portfolios? **219 Google Finance recent quotes helps you keep track of the latest stocks and mutual funds you've most recently searched for and viewed on Google Finance.
