#  Spock Networks Privacy Policy

At Spock Networks (" ** _ Spock _ ** "), your privacy is important. This document outlines the types of personal information we receive and collect when you use Spock, as well as some of the steps we take to safeguard information.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time; each version will apply to information collected while it was in place unless you consent to our applying a new version to information that we had previously collected from you. We encourage you to periodically review our Privacy Policy to be sure you are familiar with the version in effect when you are providing your information.

##  How Spock search works

Spock crawls public websites to collect, index, and display information that it finds online about individuals.  Spock is automatic.  It just gathers information that is already available elsewhere.
Some of the information Spock finds online is "personally identifiable information," which is information that can be used to find or identify an individual.
Spock will attempt to not display any personally identifiable information it finds.  Spock will attempt to automatically recognize it as personally identifiable and avoid showing it on the search results.  But despite Spock's efforts, this information, which comes from other public online sources, may end up displayed on Spock's search results.  Spock disclaims any and all responsibility or liability in cases where publicly available personally identifiable information is displayed on search results as a by product of Spock indexing public sites. **   **
Spock exercises no control over other websites, and so cannot have your information corrected or removed from them.  Spock will attempt to display the sources of the information so that you can work with those websites directly in order to remove or correct your personally identifiable information.
Without your permission, Spock does not crawl, mine, search, or index password protected websites, private websites, or websites that specifically request not to be crawled by search engines.

##  Controlling the sources of your personal information

Here are some recommendations for protecting your privacy online when using any social network or online service:

  * Never display personally identifiable information on your profiles such as home address, phone number, birth date, social security number, or email address.
  * If you do not want your profile to be indexed by search engines, make your profile private. Most social networks allow you to make your profile private in their account settings page.
  * If other search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) are displaying web search results that are inaccurate or reveal personally identifiable information, please work with the search engine directly to remove those results from their index and work with the source website to remove your information.
  * Never give out personally identifiable information in public online discussion groups, blogs, or chat rooms.

##  Information we collect and how we use it

We collect the following types of information:

  * ** Information you provide. **  We sometimes ask you to submit personally identifiable information (such as your name, email address, birthday, gender, and an account password), such as when you sign up for a Spock Account or promotion that requires registration.
  * ** Address book import ** . All users who sign-up for Spock have the option to provide their email login information (email address and email password), so Spock can retrieve information in their address book, including but not limited to each of their contact's (each a " _ Contact _ ") email addresses and other information.
  * ** Spock cookies. **  When you visit Spock, we send one or more cookies--a small file containing a string of characters--to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. We use cookies to improve the quality of our service by storing your preferences and tracking user trends, such as how people search. Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies, but you can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some Spock features may not function properly if your cookies are disabled.
  * ** Log information.  ** When you use Spock services, our servers automatically record information that your browser sends whenever you visit Spock ** .  ** These server logs may include information such as your web request, Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your request and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser.
  * ** User communications.  ** When you send email or other communication to Spock, we retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests, and improve our services.

** How we use the above information.  ** We use the information discussed above on its own or in combination with information from third parties and information publicly available on the web, in order to provide you with a better experience, to improve the quality of our services, to improve your search retrieval and display results, to search the web and organize (and then display) the resulting information around people, and to send you information about products and services that may be of interest to you.
** Additional uses for Address Book information. **
In addition to the above paragraph, we use Contacts' information to link up current search results in Spock to the "Favorites" section for the user who provided the address book. We also contact any Contacts obtained from the address books if you request we do so.
Spock does not email, contact, or spam any Contacts from an email address book, unless specifically requested to do so by a user whose address book was the source of the Contact's information. We do not sell, rent, or lease email addresses that we obtain from address book import to third parties.
The email password a user provides to Spock to enable Spock to access the user's address book is deleted immediately thereafter. Spock does not in any way store the password once a user's address book has been retrieved. Spock does not record the password in its database, log files, or anywhere else.

We also collect the following types of information:
** Public Postings ** .  When you post your own personal information--including personally identifiable information--on public areas of the site, it will be available to all users.
** Affiliated sites ** .  We offer some of our services in connection with other web sites. Personal information that you provide to those sites may be sent to Spock in order to deliver the service. We process such information in accordance with this Policy. The affiliated sites may have different privacy practices and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
** Links. **  Spock may present links in a format that enables us to keep track of whether these links have been followed. We use this information to improve the quality of our search technology, customized content, and advertising.

##  Choices for personal information

** Information You Provide to Spock **
You may request we either correct or delete the personally identifying information you provided, for example to sign up for a Spock Account or promotion that required registration, by emailing [ privacy@spock.com ](mailto:privacy@spock.com) with your name, contact information, and the information requested to be accessed, corrected, or removed.  We may decline to process requests that are unreasonably repetitive or systematic, require disproportionate effort, jeopardize the privacy of others, or would be commercially impractical (for instance, requests concerning information residing on backup tapes). In any case where we provide information access and correction, we perform this service free of charge, except if doing so would require a disproportionate effort.
However, please understand that although this information, once deleted, is not available on Spock, that information may remain stored indefinitely in our backup and archival records.
If we propose to use personal information you provided for any purposes other than those described in the Privacy Policy in place at the time of collection, we will offer you an effective way to opt in to the use of personal information for those other purposes.
** Information Spock Retrieves from the Web **
Spock automatically crawls public websites to find, index, and display personal information about people.  Because Spock does not control these other sources, Spock cannot remove your publicly available personal information from them.  To keep this personal information out of Spock's automatic index and search results, you will have to work with the original source site to remove your personal information.

##  Information sharing

Spock shares personal information with other companies or individuals outside of Spock in the following limited circumstances:

  * ** Service Providers ** .  We employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our service, to provide the service on our behalf, to perform site-related services (including, without limitation, maintenance services, database management, web analytics, and improvement of the site's features), and to assist us in analyzing how our site and service are used.  These third parties have access to your personal information only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose. We may also provide Personal Information to our business partners or other trusted entities for the purpose of providing you with information on goods or services we believe will be of interest to you.  You can, at any time, opt out of receiving such communications by contacting privacy@spock.com>.
  * ** Legal Requirements ** .  Spock cooperates with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with the law.  We will disclose any information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties as we, in our sole discretion, believe necessary or appropriate to respond to claims and legal process (including but not limited to subpoenas), to protect the property and rights of Spock or a third party, to protect the safety of the public or any person, or to enforce our agreements with you or to prevent or stop any illegal, unethical, or legally actionable activity.
  * ** Business Transfers ** .  We may sell, transfer, or otherwise share some or all of our assets, including your personal information, in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, or in the event of bankruptcy.  You will have the opportunity to opt out of any such transfer if the new entity's planned processing of your information differs materially from that set forth in this Privacy Policy.
  * ** Aggregated Information ** .  We may share with third parties certain pieces of aggregated, non-personal information, such as the number of users who searched for a particular term, for example, or how many users clicked on a particular advertisement. Such information will not identify you individually.

** International Processing **
Spock processes personal information on our servers in the United States of America and in other countries.

##  Children under 13

In accordance with America's Federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under the age of 13. Registration on the Sites and Services is not available to anyone under the age of 13.
** Other sites. **
This Privacy Policy applies to web sites and services that are owned and operated by Spock. We do not exercise control over the sites displayed as search results or links from within our various services.  These other sites may place their own cookies or other files on your computer, collect data or solicit personal information from you.  The fact that we link to a website or present a banner ad or other type of advertisement is not an endorsement, authorization, or representation of our affiliation with that third party, nor is it an endorsement of their privacy or information security policies or practices.  Other sites follow different rules regarding the use or disclosure of the personal information you submit to them.  We encourage you to read the privacy policies or statements of the other websites you visit.
** Information security **
We take security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure, or destruction of data. These include internal reviews of our data collection, storage, and processing practices and security measures, as well as physical security measures to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we store personal data.
We restrict access to personal information to Spock employees, contractors, and agents who need to know that information in order to operate, develop, or improve our services. These individuals are bound by confidentiality obligations and may be subject to discipline, including termination and criminal prosecution, if they fail to meet these obligations.
