##   Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer Privacy Notice

The [ Google Privacy Policy ](http://www.google.com/privacy.html) describes how we treat personal information when you use Google's products and services, including information provided when you use the Google Toolbar. In addition, the following describes our privacy practices that are specific to the Google Toolbar. 

** Information we collect **

  * The Google Toolbar automatically sends only standard, limited [ information ](http://www.google.com/privacy_faq.html#serverlogs) to Google, which may be retained in Google's [ server logs ](http://www.google.com/privacy_faq.html#serverlogs) . It does not send any information about the web pages you visit (e.g., the URL), unless you use Toolbar's advanced features. You do not need to provide any personal information in order to download and use the Google Toolbar. 
  * If you use advanced features or you explicitly request more information about a page (for example, by using the "Backward Links" or "Similar Pages" features), then Toolbar will send the log information and additional information, such as the URLs you visit or the text on the page. For more information about Toolbar's advanced features, please see the [ Toolbar FAQ ](http://www.google.com/support/toolbar) . 
  * Toolbar Features that give you access to other Google services such as [ Blogger ](http://www.blogger.com/privacy) and [ Gmail ](http://gmail.google.com/gmail/help/privacy.html) are subject to the separate Privacy Policies of those products. Features that require use of a Google Account, like Bookmarks, store information with your Account as explained in the main [ Google Privacy Policy ](http://www.google.com/privacy.html) . Other features, like SMS This, that let you transmit data from the Toolbar may log that data transmission, as explained in the [ FAQ ](http://www.google.com/support/toolbar) . 
  * Third party site custom buttons send information such as search queries to sites that are not operated by Google or covered by Google's Privacy Policy. 
  * The Google Toolbar contacts our servers periodically to obtain automatic updates to the latest version, or as part of the uninstall process. If you choose to share usage statistics with Google for aggregate use in improving our services, Toolbar will also contact our servers with this data. We do not associate this data with personally identifying information about you. 
  * If you have Google Toolbar Version 4.0 or above, your copy of Google Toolbar includes a unique application number. When you install Google Toolbar, this number and a message indicating whether the installation succeeded are sent back to Google. Also, when Google Toolbar automatically checks to see if a new version is available, the current version number and the unique application number are sent to Google. The unique application number is required for Google Toolbar to work and cannot be disabled. 
  * Except for information sent through Toolbar for use with a separate Account-based service such as Gmail, we do not associate any of the information that Toolbar sends with other personal information about you. However, it is possible that a URL or other page information sent to Google may itself contain personal information. ** Uses **

  * We process your requests in order to operate the Google Toolbar. For example, by knowing which web page you are viewing, the PageRank feature of Google Toolbar can show you Google's ranking of that web page. Likewise, by processing the text on a web page, SpellCheck can offer spelling suggestions and AutoLink can provide useful links to information. 
  * In addition, we use log information about aggregate Toolbar usage to improve the quality of Toolbar and other Google services. 

** Information security **

  * If you provide personal information to use Toolbar's Autofill feature (which automatically completes web forms for you), that information will be saved on your computer, with any credit card information saved in encrypted form. 
  * Any information sent to Google will be maintained in accordance with the [ Google Privacy Policy ](http://www.google.com/privacy.html) . Google's Privacy Policy does not cover information that you send to third party sites. 

** Your choices **

  * You can disable and reenable advanced features at any time in the Options dialog box. Access the Options dialog box by opening the "Settings" Menu (in Toolbar 4) or the "Google" menu (in earlier Toolbar versions), and selecting "Options" on the menu.   * When an advanced feature is enabled, you will see a visible indication in your browser, as described in the [ Toolbar FAQ ](http://www.google.com/support/toolbar) . 
  * Google will notify you if it materially changes these policies, at which time you will have the opportunity to discontinue using the Google Toolbar.
